Why ChatGPT and Gemini don't know your business (3 usual reasons)
June 6, 2026
You've been in business 15 years. Great reviews. Busy crews. And ChatGPT has never heard of you. How?
1. Your info doesn't match across the web
AI apps cross-check your name, address and phone everywhere they appear - your site, Google profile, Yelp, the chamber of commerce page from 2014. If the details disagree, the AI treats you as uncertain and skips you. This is the most common failure and owners almost never know it's there.
2. Your website is clever instead of clear
“Crafting comfort since 1998” means nothing to an AI. It needs the plain version: what you do, where you do it, who you do it for. If a stranger couldn't tell what you sell from your homepage in five seconds, neither can the AI.
3. There's nothing for the AI to cite
AI apps love sources: review profiles, FAQ pages, structured business info. A bare five-page brochure site gives them nothing to quote, so they quote your competitor's detailed FAQ instead.
The good news
All three are fixable in weeks, not months - and the fixes are mostly one-time. Find out which ones apply to you:
